60 Minutes, 7 Jobs, 1 Lunch Hour -- Average Brit Spends Just 3.5 Minutes Eating Lunch
London, UK (PRWeb) January 31, 2007 -- Forget sitting down to enjoy a relaxing lunch, the average Brit packs in up to seven activities in their lunch break allowing them only three and a half minutes to eat.
A new survey published today by online mobile phone retailer Dial-A-Phone has revealed that over three quarters of the British population spend more time shopping online during their lunch hour than eating or relaxing.
Dial-a-Phone surveyed people across the UK, to find out how the average working Brit spends their lunch hour.
The average lunch hour is split into at least seven activities ranging from shopping online, catching up with friends and family and sorting out personal finances - on average 3 minutes of every lunch break is spent looking for a new job.
Ironically, we spend three times as many precious minutes deciding, queuing and buying our lunch than we do eating it - whilst we dedicate the rest of the time cramming in those activities we don't have the time to do otherwise after hours.
When questioned further, 32% of people said that their lunch hour was the only time they had to get essential jobs done, 64.3% admitted that they always try to cram in as much as possible while 34% declared that they hoped their bosses thought they were working over lunch when they are in fact shopping online or doing Internet banking.
The survey confirmed that an increasing number of working people across the country struggle to fit in mundane tasks like paying the bills and supermarket shopping and so are going online at lunchtime in their droves!
A spokesperson for Dial-a-Phone comments: "It surprises me how much we manage to pack into just one hour. It's clear that we're all working so hard that the lunch hour - where once we refreshed ourselves before getting back to work - is now the only time that many people have to get their lives in order.
"The good news is we do spend time chatting to friends and family, meaning we do relax at some point in our busy day!"
