Dallas-based Baylor Health Care System and MediSend International Work Together To Improve Health Care Systems in Developing Countries
(PRWEB) July 18, 2008 -- Dallas-based Baylor Health Care System and MediSend International have joined together in a first-mover humanitarian initiative to improve health care systems in developing countries. MediSend is the first organization to offer a comprehensive BMT Biomedical Repair Training Program© designed specifically to meet the needs and challenges of hospitals in developing countries. The intensive curriculum and training model were created in direct response to the worldwide lack of skilled biomedical technicians. Baylor Health Care System is providing formal professional internships to the biomedical trainees as part of the curriculum.
Recently, nine men and three women from Angola and Nigeria all sponsored by the ExxonMobil Foundation as part of the ExxonMobil Africa Health Initiative, returned to their home countries as qualified biomedical technicians trained on a complete range of biomedical equipment typically found in developing country hospital environments. The trainees spent six months taking courses in the first comprehensive, performance-based biomedical training curriculum for developing countries that meets US standards in biomedical technologies.
Baylor will provide two one-week and two one-month professional internships each year as part of the MediSend BMT Basic and Advanced curricula, offering hands-on training in a state-of-the-art clinical environment at four separate Baylor facilities.

New students will soon arrive from developing countries including India, Equatorial Guinea, Democratic Republic of Congo and Liberia to begin the Fall Semester at MediSend International.
